I think it’s good to write down what you’re hoping to achieve and a calendar year seems to be a nice thematic way to do so. This isn’t a set of New Years resolutions. This is just a collection of things that I would like to keep doing, start doing or stop doing entirely. It’s a preliminary list as I’ll likely update it in the near future as I understand more. I’ve loosely categorised these as below. These are mostly bullet points at the moment.
General Life
- Reintroduce daily meditation back into my life
- Sell my car, purchase an e-bike and use it to get around the city
- Purchase a gravel bike (looking at the Trek Checkpoint ALR5 at the moment) and go for some longer road and gravel rides
- Have a long holiday (6 weeks) to refresh myself
- Try bike packing/touring
- Try to introduce more digital minimalism into my life
- Try to work away from my phone where possible.
- Continue to introduce quantified life tracking here outside of weight, sleep and heart rate variability.
- Try out Twitter for a one month period, determine whether it can introduce value into my life
- Start exploring locations where I can develop cabin
- Try and make 3 new friends
Health and Fitness
- Remain uninjured
- Try Brazilian Jiu Jitsu out
- Continue abstaining from alcohol entirely
- Continue low carb diet for the next 12 months
- Continue handbalancing
- Consistent HSPU and Handstand Press
- Continue working towards 1 arm
- Start to introduce different shapes
- Run a half marathon
- Achieve the splits
- Cycle a half century and a full century on the bike
- Aim to maintain bodyweight at around 80-81kg
Career
- Work out what the next career progression step is
- Maintain enthusiasm, diligence and productivity
- Try to become more task oriented and less procrastination oriented in my work
- Work out how to leave work at work and stop letting it follow me home
Personal Finance
- Hit a 65% savings rate in 2022 and maintain expenses <$55,000 AUD
- Continue to invest in equities, no change to current allocation or mortgage paydown principles
- Spend less money on eating out
- Spend more money on making things, trips and my hobbies
- Continue working towards an ERE style “systems thinking” approach to life
DIY and House
- Finish the required house repairs
- Try out basic wood working
- Set up living area with custom built work benches
- Finish the pipe book case
- Try out a small indoor hydroponics system
- Set up a Raspberry Pi based home automation server using HASS
Leatherworking
- Continue making small goods
- Develop a brand, set up a store and instagram for this
- Hit $1,000 in sales from the store
- Purchase more quality tools, set up a proper work bench to reduce the overhead of having to get things out each and every time
